Practical information

We are very happy to welcome you to JURE 2009 conference in Amsterdam! We would like to inform you about some practical and social aspects of the conference.  You find some practical information below, for the full practical guide click here.

Let's dance! (NEW)
'Paradiso' has its 'Noodlanding' (forced landing) with somewhat alternative music on Wednesday and Thursday night (August 26th and 27th). Once you've been in this former church, you definitely want to come back!
For more info:  www.paradiso.nl

The event starts at 23:30, but let's meet around 10pm at 'De Balie', the pub next to 'Paradiso' , which is on the right hand side (address: Kleine Gartmanplantsoen 10).
You can also come directly to 'Paradiso' (address: Weteringsschans 6-8).

By public transportation: trams 1, 2, 5, 7, 10, night busses 351, 352, 353, 354, 356, 358
Get off at Leidseplein which is next to the 'Paradiso' and 'De Balie'.

1. Where to find a nice hotel in Amsterdam?
Whether you look forward to that luxury bath in your room at the Hilton hotel, or simply want a cheap but clean hostel, Amsterdam has it all. For the first option, you might want to make use of the online reservation system at the EARLI-website. Although that system also allows you to book a room in a Stay-okay hostel.  For the second option you can contact the organizing committee.

2. Pre-register already on Sunday (August 23) and get to know other participants as well as nice spots in Amsterdam
Most participants arrive in Amsterdam during the weekend of August 22nd and 23rd. Therefore, we would like to offer you the opportunity to pre-register at cafe Canvas on Sunday August 23rd, from 4 to 7 o’ clock in the afternoon. Canvas is momentarily one of the hippest places of Amsterdam, where you can also have dinner with other participants you just got to know.

Preceding the pre-registration you can meet other participants if you decide to join us for cycling through Amsterdam towards cafe Canvas. We will show you (cheap and) nice places to eat, drink, hang out and other highlights. No extra notification for participation is needed for this activity.

Start of the biking tour will take place at 2 pm by the Aaron & Mozes church at the Waterlooplein (fleemarket). You can come there by any metro line from Central Station, just get off at 'Waterlooplein' station. We'll go together to the bike rental.
Find the map of the tour here.

3. JURE dinner on Monday (August 24) in grand cafe 'the Basket'

What is a JURE conference without the main social event: the JURE dinner. This year, the dinner will be held on Monday in grand cafe “The Basket” which is located at the conference venue. It is a great way to end the first day of the conference and meet the people you were in the sessions with in an informal way. The sessions of the conference will end around 7 p.m. and the event starts immediately afterwards. The dinner will be a European buffet with several salads (including vega and fish), and warm mains (again with fish, meat and vega). Also on the buffet will be water, bread and sauces and, as desserts, cheeses and fruit.

The dinner costs 25 euros, including 2 drinks. You'll need to pay when entering the restaurant, and registration beforehand  is required (to give an indication to the kitchen). If you want to attend this dinner, please fill out the form.
NOTE: you must register no later than Friday the 21st of August.

4. Join the JURE community at ‘Facebook’.
We created a JURE community at Facebook. There you can meet the organizing committee and other participants beforehand. Furthermore, you can find information about informal events like the cycling tour through Amsterdam preceding the pre-registration. You can even organise informal events yourself at Facebook. Also, you will be able to find pictures and other stuff we will jointly gather during the conference. So, become a Facebook member too and accept our invitation (or search for JURE2009 on Facebook).
