TIPS JURE LC Janneke
EARLI and JURE work closely together. The members of the JURE Local Committee have soms tips for visiting Amsterdam. Here you find Jannekes tips:
DRINKS • Kriterion (Centrum) (cinema & bar) (http://www.kriterion.nl/, Roetersstraat 170) In this bar/cinema in the east of the centre of Amsterdam, mainly students come since several faculties of the University of Amsterdam lie across the street. Managed by students.
• De Nieuwe Anita (Westerpark) (http://www.denieuweanita.nl/ Frederik Hendrikstr. 111) A squatted place were you can drink and sometimes movies/theatre/poetry. Retro/Berlin style. • Golden Brown Bar (Oud-West) (http://www.goldenbrownbar.nl/home.html/ J.P. Heijestraat 146) This bar is close to the Vondelpark. They have an amazing couch to lounge on! | |
| FOOD • Pont 13 (Westerpark) (http://www.pont13.nl/Haparandam 50) Restaurant in the West of Amsterdam in an old ferryboat (not very cheap, but the food is amazing!!!)
• Studio K (Oost/Watergraafsmeer) (http://www.studio-k.nu/ Timorplein 62) This restaurant/bar/cinema in the East of Amsterdam is managed by students. • De Ponteneur (Oost/Watergraafsmeer) (http://www.ponteneur.nl/, Eerste van Swindenstraat 581) Restaurant in the east of Amsterdam with nice, simple food. |
ACTIVITIES • Dancing at club Canvas (Oost/Watergraafsmeer) (http://www.canvasopde7e.nl//, Wibautstraat 150) Restaurant/Club at the 7th stock of a former press building. Now, artists have their studios there. Don’t forget to check out their great rooftop terrace! • Biking from Amsterdam to e.g. Marken, Monnickendam (see google maps) Enjoying the beautiful nature that is so close to Amsterdam. Just rent a bike, take the ferry behind the central station (which will lead you to ‘Noord’) and follow the signs. • Have a picnic at the Westerpark (Westerpark) (http://www.westergasfabriek.nl/english/engels_welcome.php) If the weather is nice, I like to go to the Westerpark. You will never be bored there because of the many cafes and the cinema. If you bring your own equipment, you can even play pingpong there. And watch the agenda for DJ's and live music. On August 22 "The Band Who Knew Too Much" will be playing. Entrance FREE, so you'll be going Dutch ;) Still want to check the band out online first?
